Who are you, and what led you to the position as a consultant manager at Right People Group?

My name is Thomas Möller and I have been responsible for the German market since year 2017. My academic background is in Business Psychology and as I had previous experiences within project and recruitment, I saw Right People Group as a fitting next career step and an exciting challenge.

What differentiates Right People Group from other IT consultant agencies?

The basic principle of IT agencies is the same everywhere: on the one hand there are companies with a specific problem, on the other hand is the freelancers. Our job is to find the best freelancers for a problem and to make the process as smooth as possible.

The different agencies differ in how they shape this process. At Right People Group we rely on a single point of contact a person is responsible for the complete process of a project and is in contact with both the client and the freelancer. This way we avoid information loss.

We work with clear profiles, name the customer, are transparent about our margin and give out contact details. It is also important to take enough time to really read the profile and to understand the required technologies in the project only then we can make a good match.

Tell me about a recent project you worked on that illustrates your daily job.

Often customers look for freelance support when there are some problems. Last week I had one such project, which involved the introduction of an ERP system at a larger medium-sized company. The Go-Live date had already been moved twice and the project managers had failed. Within a day we found a replacement and now the project is back in the right direction.

Often, however, there are also projects where very specific skills are sought, resources are missing or it just has to go fast.

In the hunt for the right consultant for a specific job, what are the most important qualities and traits you look for?

Most projects focus on hard skills. A freelancer is sought to solve a specific problem or complete a project. Therefore, previous experience with similar areas and knowledge constitute the most important foundations. Everything else depends on the specific context of the project. I do not think we can speak of good or bad consultants per se, only of suitable ones.

When do you feel that you did a good job? Give an example if possible.

For me, the first and earliest sign that I have done a good job is positive feedback from the freelancer and customer after getting to know each other. Then I know that I understood and correctly interpreted the clients ideas. However, I only did my job well when the project was successfully implemented. Re-engagement of the client and a long-term and positive relationship with the freelancer are the positive results.

What is your greatest career accomplishment?

In relation to Right People Group, I am proud that we have successfully passed the test phase in the German market and are now expanding our activities with our own GmbH company.

What do you like about your job at RPG and what motivates you to come to work every day?

I like the constant contact with customers and freelancers. It motivates me to go beyond the classic transactions of the industry, and to generate real value for the companies and for the freelancers. Every project is something new that I can learn from, and every conversation with a freelancer has the potential for a great exchange that goes beyond the concrete business level.

Why did you choose to work in the IT industry?

For me, the IT world is extremely interesting due to constant change and pressure to innovate. Many of todays innovations are technology-driven, and the daily IT debate does not get boring because there are always new topics to learn.

How we select our consultants

We always run a broad process to make sure we find the best match in the market for your project – both in terms of skills and price. The consultant manager that you are in touch with at our company is also the one who runs the entire process of finding and selecting your candidates. All our consultant managers have higher education and are analytically skilled. This allows them to understand which role you are looking for and the technologies and skills involved, which is crucial for the ability to find a consultant that will generate the results you are looking for. We invest heavily in developing channels and methods that allow us to reach out to as many relevant consultants as possible and our procedure is highly efficient. The consultant manager selects the most qualified consultant for your task and takes an interview to also assess experience and personality in relation to your needs. Typically, we will get back to you within 1-3 days with 1-2 CVs together with an explanation of why we think the presented candidates would be a good fit for your project.
