Scope: Consultant assignment (exact scope to be discussed)

About the Assignment:
We are seeking an experienced developer with specialized knowledge in VisualWorks Smalltalk to assist our customer in Stockholm with industrial robot-based equipment. The current GUI is programmed in a 2003 version of VisualWorks Smalltalk running on a Windows XP computer, which is currently not connected to the internet. The GUI interfaces with BASIC on a separate controller for the machine.

At present, the equipment is not functioning, and the GUI does not provide sufficient information to identify the issues. Our customer wishes to gain an understanding of the code to pinpoint the source of the error messages. The source code consists of approximately 700,000 lines, including all referenced packages.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has in-depth knowledge and experience with VisualWorks Smalltalk.
  • Can analyze and comprehend complex code to assist in identifying and resolving issues.
  • Has experience in industrial automation and robotics (preferred).
  • Possesses strong communication skills in English.
