On behalf of a Pharma client, we are looking for a Senior Python Backend Engineer for a project.

The consultant will be working on a production-critical backend platform, responsible for maintaining and improving existing legacy systems while simultaneously developing new greenfield services. The work includes navigating complex codebases, implementing modern engineering practices, optimizing databases, and ensuring high-quality, reliable backend systems. 

Our client is seeking a consultant with extensive experience in Python, SQLAlchemy, and PostgreSQL. The consultant must have a deep understanding of modern programming practices and a proven track record in building robust, maintainable backend systems.

Your qualifications
We are looking for a consultant with as many of the following competencies:

- Extensive experience with Python and modern features (type hints, async/await, decorators, etc.)
- Solid experience with SQLAlchemy 2.0 and ORM patterns
- Strong PostgreSQL knowledge (schema design, query optimization, indexing)

- Solid understanding of RDBMS fundamentals

- Experience with database migrations in live systems(Alembic)

- Experience building APIs with FastAPI or similar frameworks
- Proven experience refactoring and modernizing legacy systems in production

- Hands-on experience with AWS (ECS, ECR, ALB, S3, IAM, SSM)

- Experience with Terraform for infrastructure-as-code

- Strong Docker experience (multi-stage builds, optimization, debugging)

- Solid testing experience using pytest (unit and integration tests)

- Experience with BDD / behavior-driven testing

- Experience with modern Python dependency management (e.g. uv)

- Knowledge of Domain-Driven Design and architectural patterns

- Experience with Pydantic v2

- Experience with CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions
