On behalf of a private sector client in Copenhagen, we are looking for experienced PHP developers — potentially from a smaller development house — to support ongoing maintenance and operation of an existing legacy PHP codebase.

The work centres on keeping an older PHP system running and up to date. This involves bug fixing, implementing smaller improvements, and making sure the codebase stays stable over time. The consultant will be working closely with the client's existing setup, so a solid understanding of older PHP versions and the ability to navigate inherited code is essential.

We are looking for developers who are confident reading and modifying legacy code — not just greenfield development. The right fit is someone practical and methodical, who gets things done without needing everything to be rebuilt from scratch first.

Location: remote work, but a few times a month at the Copenhagen office.

Your qualifications
We are looking for a consultant with the following qualifications:

• Strong hands-on experience with PHP, including older versions (PHP 5.x or earlier)
• Proven ability to work with legacy codebases — reading, debugging, and extending existing code
• Familiarity with common database technologies used alongside PHP, e.g. MySQL
• Experience with version control (Git or similar)
• Structured and methodical approach — comfortable maintaining systems rather than only building new ones
• Professional working proficiency in English or Swedish
